Our heritage
Kanya is a sustainable brand of woven accessories and homeware with a social impact.
This project is rooted in an artisanal technology transforming bagasse -a sugarcane residue- into a pioneering, eco-friendly, natural weaving fabric. A process that generates employment and alternative livelihood opportunities to a rural community in Batangas, found in the island of Luzon. An agricultural community almost synonymous to sugar cane.
The very essence of Kanya is interwoven with a commitment to be of service to those who grow sugarcane, process its byproducts, spin, weave and sew the fabric into delicate as well as minimalist designs inspired by the serenity and air of the land it was born from. The sale of our collection of fashion accessories homeware and apparel provides stable jobs to 40 individuals while stimulating an artisanal industry rooted in sugarcane.
Kanya is the brainchild of a Spaniard with a Filipino soul. Enterprising, purpose-driven, creative and empowered, she decided is was time to express her gratitude to the Philippines, to its people and geography, for the blessings they have provided throughout her life.
Kanya is a Social Enterprise. As such, by purchasing our products not only are you buying a unique, handmade, artisanal product but you invest in a project that provides a new livelihood opportunity to the members of this Filipino, rural community.
